Are you facing into that Sunday evening meal prep turmoil? Don’t worry you’ve come to the right place I’ve got some stellar tips and tricks to help you prep like a boss!
Meal prepping and cooking can feel like a constant battle during the week, but you’ll be pleased to know it doesn’t have to be. I’m a huge fan of what I like to call, no prep meal prep. Essentially piecing together different ingredients that will make up a meal in the shortest time possible.
If you follow my Instagram stories you’ll already have seen #noprepmealprep in action in the form of pre-cooked meat & teamed with chopped raw veggies to be steamed in the microwave right before meal times.
I have teamed up with Green Isle as they launch their Vegetable Rice range and this new range really couldn’t be better when it comes to my no prep meal prep mantra! The best part about it is that I’ve been able to skip out on the peeling and chopping as a result!
So without further adieu, here are my top tips for meal prepping:
- Make a list and plan ahead.
Look at your week as a whole and make a plan based on exactly how many meals you will need to prepare. From there create an itemised shopping list and stick to it! - Let someone else do the peeling and chopping.
Where you can buy items that are ready to eat, for example Green Isle’s Vegetable Rice range requires nothing bar 3 mins in your microwave before serving.
Green Isle Broccoli Rice is made from 100% broccoli and contains only 2g of carbs, 83% fewer calories than boiled rice and is a source of Vitamin C, as a result it is an ideal alternative to serve instead of rice, potato or pasta for healthy meal. - Invest in some good quality containers.
This will help you to portion out your meals correctly, avoid any disastrous handbag leakages. My favourites are those that have a steam spout, it helps the reheat process and ensures that your food heats evenly and doesn’t end up dried out. - Choose things that cook quickly and easily, eg: don’t cook whole chicken breasts, slice them to quicken the cooking process or opt for minced chicken/turkey as an alternative.
- Don’t forget to portion out some snacks to avoid any hangry situations! Rice cakes, chopped peppers and energy balls are my go tos.
The most important thing about meal prepping and planning your nutrition for the week ahead is not to stress over the small stuff. We’re all becoming more and more conscious of making sure that we’re feeding ourselves and our loved ones the very best. Despite always having the best intentions, often times life can get in the way whether it’s working late or getting stuck in traffic sometimes we’re left on the spot with nothing to hand for dinner so that’s where planning ahead with meal prep comes into play, by accepting help in the form of pre prepped items such as cooked meats, pre portioned oats and ready to cook veg you can half your prep time, making the task far less daunting.
You can pick up Green Isle Vegetable Rice in your local, SuperValu, Tesco & Dunnes.
