Meat Free Bangers and Mash

Bangers and Mash is a comforting classic that has been around for generations. Now, I am going to show you how to bring a much loved dish into 2020 with this great new twist, but with no compromise in taste.

For many, Bangers and Mash is such a wholesome and nostalgic dish – bringing back fond memories with every mouth full!

The Green Cuisine Meat-Free Sausages are an absolute showstopper when it comes to a substitute for this childhood favourite, and they couldn’t be simpler to prepare.

Just like the rest of the Green Cuisine range, what I love about them most is that they can be oven baked or shallow fried, depending on what you’re preparing them with.

On a super busy evening they can cook away by themselves in the oven while I prepare other things, but if I come home in a hurry, I prefer to pop them straight on the pan like you would a traditional sausage and watch over them until they’re done!

One thing to really get excited about with this recipe is the addition of meat-free (vegan) gravy. Just because you’re cutting down on your meat consumption doesn’t mean you have to forgo age all favourites like gravy, and trust me, you won’t be able to taste the difference – it’s just like the real deal!

As for the meat-free sausages? With a unique combination of herbs and spices, and a seriously moist texture, you won’t even notice they are meat-free. Mixed with creamy mashed potato and dripping in gravy, it really is a taste explosion.

The Green Cuisine range is powered by plants and a super alternative to meat. Packed full of quality protein and key nutrients, if you’re looking to reduce your meat intake in 2020, they are the perfect partner to have on hand in your freezer.

Check out the recipe below for my Green Cuisine Bangers and Mash – trust me, it’s going to form part of your weekly meal rotation because once you try it you’ll want to eat it every day!

Green Cuisine Bangers and Mash

For this recipe you will need…

Ingredients:

1 packet of Green Cuisine Meat Free Sausages

Per person – 3 small white potatoes & ½ a sweet potato, peeled and diced ¼ cup of milk of your choice (I prefer to use almond) Large pinch of salt & cracked black pepper Optional: 1 tbsp butter

For the gravy: 4 tsp of meat free gravy powder 2 tbsp vegetable bullion Water as instructed on the gravy powder box

To garnish: Finely chopped parsley & spring onions. 

Green Cuisine Bangers and Mash - a hearty favourite!

Method: 

1. To begin place the potatoes in a pot of water and place on your hob, bring the water to a rolling boil before reducing the heat slightly, placing a lid on and allowing to cook for 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are softened.

2. Next it’s time to cook your sausages – there are a few options here – personally it’s all about shallow frying for me but below are all of the cooking options!

Oven cook – From Frozen 
200°C, Fan 180° C, Gas Mark 6: 13-15 mins 
Pre-heat the oven. 
Place on a baking tray in the middle of the oven. 
Turn over halfway through cooking.

Pan cook – From Frozen 
Low heat 10-15 mins 
Pre-heat 1 tbsp of oil in a non-stick frying pan. 
Place the Meat-Free Sausages in the pan and shallow fry. 
Turn over occasionally. 

3. While the sausages are cooking away prepare the gravy as per the instructions on the packet – I like to add bullion to mine to increase the flavour profile!

4. Once the potatoes are fully cooked, mash and stir in the milk, butter and seasoning.

5. Finally – grab a plate, pile high with mash – add your sausages – drown in gravy – garnish and enjoy!
